Despegar Fellows: Mentorship for First-Gen, Low-Income Students

A free online mentorship and leadership program for students across Latin America who are the first in their families to pursue higher education and come from low-income backgrounds, guiding them through applications for internships, graduate study, and more.

Two individuals are posing together, holding a sign that reads "PROUD FIRST-GEN" decorated with a heart.

The project addresses inequity faced by first-generation, low-income students across Latin America: those who are the first in their families to pursue higher education and experience financial hardship. Without inherited guidance or networks, they face systemic barriers to opportunity. It provides free, one-on-one online mentorship and leadership training to help students apply for internships, graduate study, and more. Ultimately, it advances educational equity and builds a network of mentors and alumni expanding access for future generations.
