The Digital Scalpel: Artificial Intelligence & Surgery

An interdisciplinary working group focused on assessing the capabilities and limitations of AI technologies in surgery, studying those currently in use and contributing to future AI innovations.

Two individuals are engaged in conversation.

AI has the potential to enhance all stages of surgical care, from clinical reasoning and surgical planning to intra- and post-operative strategy. Tools like OpenEvidence have been adopted by hundreds of thousands of physicians. We will explore the impact, expected and unexpected, of AI technologies in advancing surgical care and potentially creating more equitable access to the best treatments. We aim to identify areas for future growth where we can contribute through novel initiatives.

Knight-Hennessy scholars represent a vast array of cultures, perspectives, and experiences. While we as an organization are committed to elevating their voices, the views expressed are those of the scholars, and not necessarily those of KHS.
