Finding the Future of Representation: A Computational Study of Identity

We're creating a platform capable of analyzing trends in how racialized groups are characterized in American media, with the aim of creating a more equitable and inclusive American media landscape.

How are characters characterized? This project aims to use digital methods to examine several trends in the field of literary representation and the media at large to ultimately provide tangible pathways toward more inclusive media. We’re interested in examining how characters are characterized and if there are correlations between character identity and representation in texts.
