A tuition-free pipeline from community college to licensed therapist
Addressing the shortage of behavioral health providers by building a tuition-free, apprenticeship-based degree pathway from community college to licensed therapist.
We are living amid a mental health crisis fueled by a national provider shortage: 60 million Americans are living with mental illness, but 47% live in a designated provider shortage area. Shockingly, though many community college graduates want to fill this gap, only 1 in 6 who aspire to earn a bachelor’s degree are successful due to insufficient career pathways—even though almost half of community colleges are in counties with a provider shortage. We are addressing this problem by bringing online counseling degree programs with paid apprenticeships to community college graduates, training the next generation of therapists without charging them a dime.
Knight-Hennessy scholars represent a vast array of cultures, perspectives, and experiences. While we as an organization are committed to elevating their voices, the views expressed are those of the scholars, and not necessarily those of KHS.
