Ahmed Osama Babikir (Karrar) is an ATGPR neurosurgeon from Shendi, Sudan, pursuing a master’s degree in human genetics and genetic counseling at Stanford University. He graduated as the valedictorian with an honorary MD from Shendi University, and serves as a university lecturer of pathology and a postdoctoral research fellow in cancer biology. As a physician-scientist, Ahmed aspires to bridge the gap between clinical practice and translational research, focusing on precision medicine and gene therapy for brain tumors. His research in tumor genetics led to the discovery of novel BRCA1 mutations linked to aggressive breast cancers resistant to chemotherapy. He is a ZASGA laureate and has received the Professor Barry Neuroscience Award, the CREBM Award, and the SMC Honorary Distinction. Ahmed is a passionate proponent of peacebuilding, sustainable development, and women’s empowerment. His achievements with the Sudan Emergency Response Room Initiative inspired PRIO to nominate the initiative for the 2024 Nobel Prize.
