Batu El, from Izmir, Turkey, is pursuing a PhD in computational and mathematical engineering at Stanford School of Engineering. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University as a triple major in mathematics, computer science, and economics. While at Tulane, he co-founded chember.co, a social platform that connects basketball enthusiasts. He then worked at the World Bank as a consultant, delivering advisory services to public asset managers in central banks, before moving to the U.K. to pursue an MPhil in advanced computer science at the University of Cambridge, where he focused his studies on natural language processing and the theory of deep learning. Batu is interested in exploring the potential role of dialogue agents in assisting brainstorming and helping to resolve conflicts on social platforms. His research focuses on understanding language models to inform the safe deployment of dialogue agents in real-world applications.
