Callan Russell

Callan Russell, from McDonough, Georgia, is pursuing a master’s degree in human genetics and genetic counseling at Stanford School of Medicine. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in genetics and a minor in music. Callan aspires to advocate for her patients while educating them about the contribution genetics makes to health and well-being within a compassionate, professional, and informative atmosphere. While at UGA, she researched heat tolerance and photomorphogenesis in Arabidopsis thaliana, assisted with case preparation as the University of South Carolina School of Medicine’s summer genetic counseling intern, and coordinated performance events as band captain of the Redcoat Marching Band. Callan co-founded the first genetics club at UGA, G.E.N.E.S., and volunteered with Extra Special People, a nonprofit serving children and young adults with developmental disabilities. She received the Crane Leadership Scholarship, Vince Dooley Redcoat Band Scholarship, and the UGA Presidential Award of Excellence.
