Cesar Portocarrero, from Lima, Peru, is pursuing a master's degree in civil engineering with a focus on sustainable design and construction at Stanford School of Engineering, and a master's in public policy at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. He graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Cesar strives to utilize Big Data and Machine Learning to modernize processes in the Peruvian construction industry and provide critical infrastructure for the vulnerable populations in the region. Since graduating, He worked as a research assistant in a UNEP-sponsored project to develop an environmental footprint calculator for local coffee producers in Peru, to promote green practices and comply with international export regulations. Cesar has also participated as the Peruvian representative in the University of Tsukuba Trans-Pacific Program in Japan, the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program in Canada, and is currently a researcher at the University of Tokyo, sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Education.
