EmJ Rennich

EmJ Rennich, from Ann Arbor, Michigan, is pursuing a PhD in mechanical engineering with a focus in bio-inspired robotic design at Stanford School of Engineering. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in art and design. While at Michigan, EmJ led the design and fabrication of novel instrumentation for ultra-cold transmission electron microscopy. Toward commercialization of this technology, she led a team of scientists in completing the NSF National I-Corps program, and in 2022 she co-founded h-Bar Instruments, a company dedicated to expanding the in situ capabilities of electron microscopes. Passionate about STEM education, EmJ was the U-M Science Olympiad tournament director for two years and enjoys writing forensic science tests and educational materials in her free time.
