Fran Reuland

2023 Cohort

Fran Reuland, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is pursuing a master’s degree in energy science engineering at Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. She graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill  as a double major in environmental science and Spanish literature and a chemistry minor. Fran aspires to reduce global climate change risks to humanity and ecosystems by transforming and decarbonizing energy systems. After graduation, she completed a junior research fellowship in the energy and climate program at the Carnegie Endowment in Washington, D.C. There and through her work at the International Energy Agency in Paris and at Rocky Mountain Institute in Colorado, she has researched greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel systems with a focus on improving methane measurement and mitigation strategies. Fran was a varsity athlete on UNC women’s soccer team and received the NCAA Elite 90 Award. She continues to play competitively, including on a second-division professional team in the France Football Federation.
