Francis Opoku Twene

Francis Opoku Twene, from Accra, Ghana, is a medical doctor pursuing a master’s degree in epidemiology and clinical research at Stanford School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Ghana, graduating as the Best in Clinical Surgery and Best in Medicine and Therapeutics. Additionally, he received the prestigious Ghana Medical Association Award for the best student in clinical rotations in medical school. Committed to health equity and improving health outcomes, Francis chose to practice in rural Ghana, where his dedication earned him the Best Medical Officer Award in 2024. He has coordinated two major outreaches in rural Ghana, allowing hundreds of people to receive free surgical interventions. His research collaborations extend globally and include works with the National Institute of Health and Care Research in the U.K. As a first-generation college student, Francis is passionate about mentorship and capacity-building and inspiring future health care professionals.
