
Hermann Kumbong

Hermann Kumbong, from Bamenda, Cameroon, is pursuing a PhD in computer science at Stanford School of Engineering. He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where he was the class valedictorian, and a master of science in computer science from Stanford. Hermann aims to develop efficient methods for developing and deploying AI solutions to help accelerate progress in the field and democratize its access. His research has been published at top AI conferences, and he received a Best Poster Award at the NeurIPS (Neural Information Processing Systems) workshop on efficient natural language processing. Hermann has engaged in several mentorship efforts to improve education and career outcomes for historically underrepresented groups through ElevateSteps, Ananse Mentorship, OpenDreams, and the Black Engineer’s Network at Goldman Sachs. Hermann is a recipient of the Stanford EDGE Fellowship, the Wade Scholarship, and the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship.
