Irfan Mahmud, from Saint George, Utah, is pursuing a master's degree in business administration at Stanford Graduate School of Business. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and classics from Harvard College, and he is also pursuing a JD at Harvard Law School. Between college and graduate school, he spent time working in consulting at McKinsey & Co. with a focus on state and federal government clients. He also worked at the United Nations in Nairobi focusing on supporting governments throughout the African continent. Since starting graduate school, he has worked on international issues at the Department of State, economic policy at the Department of Treasury, racial justice at the ACLU, and election-related litigation with Perkins Coie Political Law Group. As a Muslim-American child of immigrants from Bangladesh, Irfan aspires to bring the world closer to human justice and equality globally through effective solutions to the world's pressing problems.
