Julia Fine

Julia Fine, from Chevy Chase, Maryland, is pursuing a PhD in history at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. She graduated summa cum laude from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in history and literature and a language citation in Hindi-Urdu. As a Cambridge Trust scholar, she received an MPhil with distinction in Modern South Asian Studies from the University of Cambridge. Julia researches the food and environmental history of the British Empire in order to understand our present climate crisis. She has published on these topics both in journalistic outlets and peer-reviewed journals, as well as on Mellon-funded digital humanities platforms. Julia's work on food has been recognized by the James Beard Foundation and the Association of Food Journalists, and she is the recipient of the Thomas T. Hoopes Prize, Sophia Freund Prize, and C.A. Bayly Dissertation Prize.
