Julie Uchitel, from Southampton, Pennsylvania, is pursuing a MD at Stanford School of Medicine. She graduated summa cum laude from Duke University as a Neuroscience and French double major. As an undergraduate, she performed pediatric research at at Duke Children's Hospital, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Duke Margolis Center for Health Policy, and also worked on advocacy projects with the International Pediatric Association and the WHO. Then, as a Marshall Scholar, she earned her PhD at the University of Cambridge, Department of Pediatrics / University College London, Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. In her PhD, she performed the first ever study of wearable high-density diffuse optical tomography and electroencephalography (EEG) for cot-side brain imaging of newborn infants in clinical settings. Long-term, she aims to intertwine pediatric neurology, non-invasive brain imaging technologies, and advocacy for early childhood development to improve young children's health outcomes globally.
