Kathrine Whitman

Kathrine Whitman, from Taft, California, is pursuing a PhD in psychology at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. She earned her bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from Claremont McKenna College. In Stanford’s Life-span Development Lab, Kathrine examines the psychosocial strengths of aging, individual and societal implications of increased longevity, and intergenerational affinity. Prior to her PhD studies, she worked in Copenhagen, Denmark, for the DIS study-abroad program’s science and health department. Kathrine conducted research on late-life suicide at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center before joining the Umanath Memory & Aging Lab at Claremont McKenna to study semantic knowledge. In addition to presenting at conferences both domestically and internationally, Kathrine shares her research through mentorship initiatives, senior community presentations, pen-pal programs, and blog posts. She recently contributed a chapter to the textbook Psychology of Aging. Kathrine was awarded an interdisciplinary science scholarship, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Stanford EDGE fellowship.
