Maggie Chen, from San Diego, California, is pursuing an MD degree and a PhD in genetics at Stanford School of Medicine. Maggie graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard College with a degree in human developmental and regenerative biology and history of science. She also holds a research master’s degree with distinction in bioengineering from Imperial College London via the British Marshall Scholarship. For her doctoral work, Maggie is deeply interested in dissecting the gene regulatory networks that drive heart development and congenital heart disease formation. Beyond the laboratory, Maggie is a science journalist and contributing writer for WIRED covering biology, biotechnology, and health. She has also been published in the New York Times, Scientific American, The Scientist, and elsewhere.
