Manju Pharkavi Murugesu

Manju Pharkavi Murugesu, from Tanjong Malim, Malaysia, is pursuing a PhD in energy resources engineering at Stanford School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences. She graduated summa cum laude from the Colorado School of Mines with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering and a minor in public affairs, and a master’s degree in petroleum engineering. Manju aspires to tackle policies of US and Southeast Asian government organizations as they confront the complexity of climate change. Through her research accomplishments, she won an honors enrichment award, Perdana scholar award, and several scholarship grants. As a researcher, she has been involved in projects with the Department of Energy, initiated a certain use of surface science technique in earth science, and co-authored a paper for the Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research. She pursued her passion in carbon capture and sequestration at the Arctic through the University of Oslo and University Centre in Svalbard, Norway. She received a PETRONAS sponsorship to study petroleum engineering, E-days Engineering Award, and the Thomas Philipose Outstanding Senior Award.
