Marina Luccioni

Marina Luccioni is from Corsica and Indonesia and grew up in London, England. She is pursuing a PhD in biology at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences and holds a BS degree with honors in human biology and the arts. Marina aspires to improve our understanding of mental health and to support community-based marine management, creating a research process that interfaces knowledge and methods from local, Indigenous, and conventional academic sources. Under the tutelage of Kelson “Uncle Mac” Poepoe since 2018, Marina is a proud member of the Nā Kai Ewalu research collective in Hawai’i. She has been awarded funding by the Irene Brown Fund for Nature Research, Rafe Sagarin Fund for Innovative Ecology, and the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program. As a documentary filmmaker, she worked on the Sundance Award-winning film A Still Small Voice in the editorial department and is a screening committee member for the International Ocean Film Festival.
