Maryanne Chege

Maryanne Waruiru Chege, from Nairobi, Kenya, is pursuing an MD and a master’s degree in epidemiology and clinical research at Stanford School of Medicine. She earned a bachelor’s degree in social anthropology and a minor in global health and health policy from Harvard College. Maryanne aspires to care for marginalized patients and to reimagine the systems that shape their health. Prior to starting her medical school studies, she worked as a research associate at Antara Health and IDinsight. She also co-founded Doctor Little Kenya, a child health organization that seeks to provide local communities in Kenya with access to quality healthcare services. During her time at Stanford, Maryanne has worked with Global Oncology to distribute and study the impact of comic books in describing the disease process in cervical cancer and the importance of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine among schoolgirls in Nairobi.
