Sharon, Massachusetts, United States
Matthew Coughlin, from Sharon, Massachusetts, is pursuing a PhD in mechanical engineering at Stanford School of Engineering. He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in mathematics from Northeastern University. Matthew aims to sustain an exponential growth in computing power by developing novel cooling systems for high-performance microelectronics that work at the die, package, and system level. This innovation is critical for equipping teams across disciplines with high-performance tools built for an era defined by massive data processing. Before beginning his PhD, Matthew earned National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates grants to work in labs at the University of Delaware and Stanford. He also earned an AJC Merit Research Scholarship at Northeastern and received awards including a Summit Research Grant, the Northeastern Honors Scholarship, and the James W. Healy Scholarship.
