Maya Sheth

2023 Cohort

Cincinnati, Ohio, United States

Maya Sheth, from Cincinnati, Ohio, is pursuing a PhD in bioengineering. She hopes to develop and apply tools to study biological mechanisms at the cellular level, and use the resulting knowledge to address challenges both in human health and sustainability. At Duke, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering in 2020, Maya led a student organization developing conservation technology. She also conducted research with the Duke Comparative Oncology Group, taking an ecological and evolutionary approach to cancer research. At Stanford, Maya has studied and modeled mechanisms of enhancer-gene regulation. When she’s not in the lab, Maya enjoys dogs, puzzles, coffee, and spending time outdoors. Maya is a recipient of the Howard G. Clark Award for excellence in undergraduate research and the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.
