Mia Harris, from Houston, Texas, is pursuing a PhD in higher education at Stanford Graduate School of Education. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Africana studies from Tulane University and a master’s degree with distinction in African studies from the University of Oxford. At Tulane, she served as president of the School of Liberal Arts Student Government and founded the Black Womxn’s Sexual Violence Awareness Collective. Mia served as managing editor of the Journal of Black Language and Culture at Cambridge University Press, one of the youngest in the university’s history, and is a Digital Strategy Fellow with the national nonprofit The Conscious Kid. Her work examines inequality in academic publishing and higher education, focusing on how universities — especially selective and elite institutions—support, retain, and educate Black students.
