Monique Santoso, from Purwakarta, Indonesia, is pursuing a PhD in communication at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. She graduated from Middlebury College with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies–conservation psychology and a minor in global health. Monique aspires to use immersive technologies to foster empathy, sustainability-related decision-making, and civic engagement. At Middlebury, she was a Davis Scholar and a Social Entrepreneurship Changemaker Fellow, and she received the Miller Palen Research Grant for her work on perspective-taking and environmental decision-making. Before enrolling at Stanford, Monique conducted public health research at Harvard University and Boston Children’s Hospital. Her work has been published in journals such as Convergence, Public Health Nutrition, and Health Education Journal, and has received awards from the American Psychological Association, the Society for Public Health Education, and the Academy of Eating Disorders. She is a Stanford Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education (EDGE) Fellow.
