Shivani Guptasarma

Shivani Guptasarma, from Chandigarh, India, is pursuing a PhD in mechanical engineering at Stanford School of Engineering. She graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) with a bachelor’s degree in engineering design and a master’s degree in biomedical design. Shivani aspires to improve lives through her teaching and research in manipulation, mechanism science, and medical product design. She was a teaching assistant for parallel manipulators and medical equipment in the department of engineering design at IITM, and interned at Systemantics India, where she worked with a team to develop a cost-effective robot for small industries. She has written for several IITM publications, including the science magazine IMMERSE, and is a student of Hindustani classical music.
