Simar Bajaj, from Fremont, California, is pursuing an MD at Stanford School of Medicine. He studied chemistry and history of science at Harvard College, graduating summa cum laude, and global health science and epidemiology at the University of Oxford. As a physician-writer, he intends to combat systemic inequities in healthcare through evidence-based journalism and health policy research. Before medical school, Simar was a health reporter at the New York Times; his work has also appeared in the Economist, Atlantic, Guardian, and Washington Post. Simar has authored over 90 peer-reviewed articles in journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, and Nature Medicine. In addition, his writing has informed the Supreme Court, Senate Finance Committee, Food and Drug Administration, and World Health Organization. Simar has been named Forbes 30 Under 30, a Marshall Scholar, and the top early-career journalist by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
