Sonia Garcia, from McAllen, Texas, is pursuing a master’s degree in design impact at Stanford School of Engineering. She graduated from Rice University with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering. She worked for Accenture as a health strategy consultant, and was the founder and president of By the Future, For the Future, a nonprofit focused on engaging the young professional community to support and raise awareness for mental and behavioral health throughout Houston. She is passionate about transforming the way mental illness is treated and cared for, and while at Stanford, plans to design and create solutions to radically improve psychiatric care.
