Sophie-An Kingsbury Lee, from New York City, New York, will be pursuing a PhD in earth system science at Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability after completing a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and engineering and a master of science in engineering, with a focus on power systems, at Harvard University. Sophie-An’s current research uses causal inference and machine learning to study the economic effects of childhood air pollution and identify policy levers to boost outcomes for low-income Americans. At Stanford, she aims to quantify the economic and health impacts of extreme climate events to incentivize emissions reductions and promote more equitable adaptation globally.
