Steven Truong, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is pursuing an MD and a PhD in biophysics at Stanford School of Medicine and Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with bachelor’s degrees in biological engineering and creative writing. As a Marshall Scholar, he read for an MPhil in computational biology at Cambridge University and an MA in creative writing at Royal Holloway. His scientific interests center around metabolic disorders, with a focus on diabetes. To this end, he co-led Vietnam’s largest genome-wide association study with physicians at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City, where the team investigated the genetic determinants of Type 2 diabetes. He also worked on engineering novel diabetes therapies while at MIT. Steven is a Paul and Daisy Soros fellow and a Goldwater scholar.
