She has competed in national cyber policy competitions and interned at Draper Laboratories, the Office of Naval Intelligence, and US Indo-Pacific Command. At the Naval Academy, she founded the Women in Cybersecurity and Computing Club, a platform to drive interest, empowerment, and inclusion in the cybersecurity field, and was a member of the varsity women’s rowing team. During a semester abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, she studied electrical engineering and international relations and led part of the Republic of Korea’s initiative to support women in the Korean Armed Forces. She returned to Korea in 2019 on the US State Department's Critical Language Scholarship. At Stanford, Sydney will focus on how technology can be used both as a tool to stifle and discourage dissent as well as one to bolster and serve marginalized communities.
