Sugar Land, Texas, United States
Thomas Lau, from Sugar Land, Texas, is pursuing a PhD in bioengineering at Stanford School of Engineering and Stanford School of Medicine, and a master's degree in statistics at Stanford School of Engineering. He graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. Thomas works on low-cost and open-source technologies that allow scientists to create cellular atlases of unexplored biological species. His goal is to create enabling technologies that drive the progress of Moore’s Law in biotechnology and empower scientists to discover new molecular tools that improve human and planetary health. Previously, Thomas served as director of scientific development and principal language architect at Emerald Cloud Lab, a biotechnology company that allows scientists to conduct experiments without being in a physical laboratory. There, he directed construction of the Carnegie Mellon University Cloud Lab, a $40 million facility that combines robotics and artificial intelligence to accelerate scientific discovery.
