Tyler Colenbrander

Tyler Colenbrander, from Novato, California, is pursuing a PhD in electrical engineering at Stanford School of Engineering. He graduated from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and from the University of Cambridge with an MPhil in physics. Tyler aspires to research renewable energy technologies such as solar cells to unlock novel applications of clean energy and tackle climate change. At Caltech, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and Cambridge, he researched different solar cell materials to enable new types of devices such as ultra-thin, flexible solar cells. Outside of research, he is the CTO of a sustainability startup designing products to monitor and reduce energy use in research laboratories. Tyler served as head peer advocate for his undergraduate residence and was captain of Caltech’s Ultimate Frisbee team. He is a recipient of the Churchill Scholarship and Goldwater Scholarship.
