Umar Siddiqi

Umar Siddiqi, from Elmhurst, Illinois, is pursuing an MD at Stanford School of Medicine. He graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, specializing in immunology. Umar aspires to increase access to the gold standard of care for patients suffering from end-stage heart failure. To this end, he has worked on heart pump technology, designing and developing left ventricular assist devices and prototyping the next generation of mechanical circulatory support. He has also performed extensive research in the field of cardiac surgery, leading national, multi-center studies to investigate critical heart failure phenomena. He hopes to practice medicine as a physician-investigator at the forefront of discovering novel therapies and deploying them in ways that allow for equitable access. He is an avid enthusiast of calligraphy, horseback riding, and philosophy. Umar is a recipient of the Goldwater Scholarship.
