Umar Sohail Qureshi

Umar Sohail Qureshi, from Karachi, Pakistan, is pursuing a PhD in physics with a minor in computer science at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. He graduated Tau Beta Pi and summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University with highest honors in physics, mathematics, and computer science. His research in high-energy particle physics — spanning theory, phenomenology, and experiment — probes the deepest foundations of reality. It combines insights from quantum field theory and machine learning to investigate some of the most enduring mysteries in fundamental physics, ranging from how elementary particles acquire mass to what constitutes dark matter. He is also interested in the future of particle physics beyond the Large Hadron Collider, including the development of next-generation colliders that could open new windows into the Higgs sector and other undiscovered phenomena. He frequently dabbles in food science, philosophy, South Asian poetry, and comparative religion.
