William Howlett

William Howlett, from St. Louis, Missouri, is pursuing a master’s in business administration at Stanford Graduate School of Business. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in economics. William aims to build a more dynamic and inclusive U.S. economy through economic statecraft that effectively navigates the intersection of economics, national security, and technology. William served on the international economics team at the National Security Council, where he worked on sovereign debt and financial sanctions. Previously, he spent two years at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he led policy for the G20 Finance Track and shaped U.S. positions on several issues at the International Monetary Fund. Most recently, William worked at BlackRock developing insights on macroeconomics, markets, and geopolitics for senior leaders. At Stanford, William wrote an honors thesis on U.S.-China financial diplomacy and received the J.E. Wallace Sterling Award for Scholastic Achievement.
