Solomon Oyakhire, from Edo State, Nigeria, is pursuing a PhD in chemical engineering at Stanford School of Engineering. He graduated from the University of Lagos with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Solomon aspires to become a professor of chemical engineering, conducting research in the field of sustainable energy technologies. He formerly worked as a research associate on the development of an artificial pancreas, worked at the Bua Sugar Refinery, volunteered at the UNESCO Education for All program, and was involved in the design of a process connection for the conversion of Shea butter nuts into Shea butter. He was selected to represent Nigeria at the University Scholars Leadership symposium in Vietnam. At the University of Lagos, he was named Best Graduating Student in the chemical engineering department, and received the Exxon Mobil Scholarship Award.
