Ben Moran

Ben Moran, from Minerva, Ohio, is pursuing a PhD in biology at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. He graduated from Northeastern University (NEU) with a bachelor’s degree in marine biology. Ben aspires to understand the origin and persistence of biodiversity through genomics, and to combine this knowledge with ecological monitoring and socioecology to amplify global conservation efforts. He was a research assistant at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel in Germany, a Hollings intern at the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center in Santa Cruz, and a fellow at the University of Michigan’s Collaborative Institute for Great Lakes Research. In support and recognition of his research efforts, he received a Barry Goldwater Scholarship and a National Geographic Young Explorer Grant. He has written for the Canadian Journal of Fisheries & Aquatic Sciences, and played trombone in NEU’s jazz and wind ensembles.
