Alex Chow

Alex Chow, from Singapore, is pursuing a PhD in Sociology at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Alex plans to study the role of education in perpetuating and alleviating issues of social inequality and mobility in cross-national contexts and aims to discover solutions that will create a more egalitarian society. At UBC, he led a research project on intergenerational educational mobility in Canada, and as a Data Science for Social Good fellow, he collaborated on a Web application to preserve and share indigenous knowledge for the Canadian Energy Regulator. He also served as co-president of the Sociology Students’ Association. For his contributions to research, leadership, and mentorship at UBC, Alex was awarded the Katherine Brearley Arts Scholarship, International Student Scholarship, and Mo Lin Yu Memorial Prize.
