Betty Cai

Betty Cai, from Vancouver, Canada, is pursuing a PhD in materials science and engineering at Stanford School of Engineering. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in materials engineering. Betty aspires to develop materials and devices that integrate with the human body to support us in our daily lives. At UBC, she developed analytical techniques for disease diagnosis at the Metabolomics and Systems Biology Laboratory, designed stretchable batteries and artificial muscles at the Molecular Mechatronics Laboratory under an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award, and completed a project on fuel cladding testing with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories. She also organized events as co-chair of the UBC IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society and group leader for the UBC Engineering First Year Engagement Program. Betty is a recipient of the IKB Women in Technology Scholarship and two-time recipient of the full-tuition scholarship in UBC Materials Engineering.
