Brenden Prins-McKinney, from Los Angeles, California, is pursuing a JD at Stanford Law School and a PhD in sociology at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. He graduated from McGill University with a bachelor’s degree in economics. Brenden is interested in studying the role that industrial democracy, worker rights, and corporate power play in improving or exacerbating economic inequalities and class stratification, with a particular interest in researching the potential for collective action to boost worker equality within the platform economy. He was formerly an investment banking analyst at Goldman Sachs, as well as a research fellow at the McKinsey Global Institute and the McKinsey Institute for Black Economic Mobility. In university, Brenden co-founded PennyDrops, a non-profit organization that has provided tens of thousands of high school students with financial literacy education across Canada; and Zua Microfinance, a microinsurance non-profit that provided index-based microinsurance to female subsistence farmers in Zambia.
