Lingyi Zhang

Lingyi Zhang, from Yunnan, China, is pursuing a PhD in materials science and engineering at Stanford School of Engineering. She received a bachelor’s degree in biological science from Peking University. Lingyi aspires to alleviate diseases and disabilities with dedicated research and to improve people’s lives through education. She founded the Firefly Program, which brings together students from eight leading universities in China to promote education equality. As president of Yuanpei Academic Societies of Students, she worked alongside more than 70 fellow students to provide educational resources. Lingyi was named a Peking University Student of the Year in 2022 and received the China National Scholarship and May 4th Scholarship, among other honors. An accomplished athlete, she won seven gold medals running track and field at Peking University.
