The Program

The Program

A Unique Opportunity.

Building upon the deep domain expertise that Knight-Hennessy Scholars develop in their home departments, scholars gain exposure to a wide range of disciplines and cultures in the Knight-Hennessy community, and participate in the King Global Leadership Program (KGLP), which is designed to develop transformational leadership capabilities. Within KGLP, scholars collaborate and begin to address important challenges facing the world, such as climate change, healthcare inequity, the future of education, and criminal justice reform.

Leadership Development

Through the King Global Leadership Program (KGLP) you will gain a multicultural and multidisciplinary perspective, develop leadership skills and traits, including creative problem solving, decision making during uncertainty, and effective collaboration.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars receive up to three years of funding to pursue graduate study at Stanford. This includes the JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MS, DMA, and PhD programs, as well as joint- and dual-degrees.

Denning House is the home of the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program. It serves as the convening hub for the community, enabling scholars to learn together, and to share ideas and experiences.

Leadership Development

As a Knight-Hennessy Scholar, you will learn to communicate, collaborate, and innovate with your fellow scholars from other disciplines. We believe these relationships — breaking down traditional academic silos — will be essential to your ability to develop new solutions to pressing problems in the world. The King Global Leadership Program will develop your capacity for transformational leadership as you learn how to inspire and challenge yourself and others to reach important goals.

In addition to the opportunities that you will pursue through the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program, you will have ample opportunity to build expertise in your selected discipline. Each of Stanford’s graduate departments offers courses and structured programs designed for students within its field. The Vice-Provost for Graduate Education also offers a comprehensive professional-development framework for all Stanford graduate students.

Inspiring and Supportive Community

The pace and pressure of your graduate studies is often intense. The Knight-Hennessy Scholars team and fellow scholars provide a community that will support and encourage you along the way. We provide a dedicated well-being coach, open office hours throughout the week, and frequent social gatherings for scholars, so that you can enjoy a break from your studies and connect with others who are there to help you thrive.
