Izzy Aguiar, from Boulder, Colorado, is pursuing a PhD in computational and mathematical engineering at Stanford School of Engineering. She graduated magna cum laude from the Colorado School of Mines with a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and statistics, and earned a master’s degree in computer science at the University of Colorado Boulder. She is passionate about effective communication in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to increase diversity and community within the disciplines. Izzy has exercised her passion for community and empathy through her past roles as executive officer of the Society for Women in Mathematics, executive officer of Equality Through Awareness, and co-founder and vice president of the Teacher Education Alliance. Through her campus involvement, she won the Martin Luther King Jr. Recognition Award, and the E-Days Engineering Award.
